BOTW Mod Spawns 20 Bears Each Time Streamer Says “Bear”

Entertainment

A streamer has created a Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild mod that will spawn bears, dogs, Guardians, and more, simply by uttering a single word, making for a chaotic yet hilarious video. Thanks to exploits and glitches in BOTW, players have been manipulating what the game typically allows in the years since its release, and mods go one step further in introducing new challenges, gameplay, and features.

As a Nintendo game only available on Switch and Wii U consoles, Zelda: Breath of the Wild doesn’t have as big of a modding community as PC titles do. Despite this, fans have been able to get very creative with their BOTW mods over the years, adding in characters from previous Zelda games, making the title VR-compatible, and even introducing some memes with the inclusion of famous non-Nintendo heroes like Disney’s Toy Stoy characters, and even Shrek in Breath of the Wild.

Content creator and YouTuber PointCrow has demonstrated how perilous – and hilarious – Breath of the Wild mods can be, showing off a mod (made in conjunction with DougDoug) that spawns new threats for Link every time a specific word is uttered on-stream. In the video, PointCrow’s chat community asks questions to try and trick the streamer into saying words including “bear,” and “dog,” which will then trigger an onslaught of in-game spawns. The YouTube notes that saying “bear” will spawn 20 bears on top of Link, while Guardians and even Blight Ganons will also appear when orally triggered. The resulting video is a chaotic take on a BOTW playthrough that even experienced players would struggle with.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild is home to many enemy types which can cause more than a little trouble for Link. While the game shifts away from the typical dungeon-crawling Zelda formula, there are a handful of dungeon-like areas known as the Divine Beasts, each of which features a Blight Ganon boss that must be defeated. By adding Blight Ganons that can spawn into any given situation anytime a specific word is spoken, PointCrow’s mod instantly raises the stakes, making for a high-action and dangerous playthrough.

The impressive Breath of the Wild mod isn’t 100% without its flaws, often spawning new threats for PointCrow when a word has been misheard by the game. This only adds to the hilarity and unpredictability of the action though, and coupling this with the intuitive and funny ways in which chat members tried to trick PointCrow into spawning bears makes for a wonderfully chaotic Zelda experience. This isn’t the first challenging BOTW mod from PointCrow, and it likely won’t be the last.
