Red Dead Redemption 2 Player’s Crime Reported By Least Likely Witness

Entertainment

After killing a group of KKK members in Red Dead Redemption 2, a player says the most unlikely witness reported their actions to the police. The Ku Klux Klan’s presence in Red Dead 2 is spread across multiple possible encounters in the open-world game. Three such encounters, in particular, were discovered not long after the game hit store shelves in October 2018.

One KKK gathering occurs at nighttime near the Southfield Flats outside of Rhodes, for example. Players can stumble upon a second meeting for the hate group in the earlier hours of the day around the Dakota River. Finally, one more gathering takes place not far from Downes Ranch after dark. Over the last few years, Red Dead Redemption 2 users have devised creative ways in which to handle such confrontations, though the in-game Klan members are also known to inadvertently bring about their own demise. The title’s baked-in honor and crime system makes these instances interesting as well, especially since killing them doesn’t negatively affect progression on the honor meter. A player recently discovered, however, that not everything is as cut and dry as it seems.

Twitter user gremulant (via Redditor OG_sushi) recently shared an intriguing anecdote about their Red Dead Redemption 2 playthrough. Apparently, the player killed every Klan member in attendance at a KKK meeting and was reported to the local authorities. The witness who snitched was a black man, gremulant claimed. It’s… quite the twist, one that has quickly turned the Twitter thread into a ball of hilarity. One person joked the witness merely wanted to bring the “rest of the meeting” to the killer. Others were quick to comment with Uncle Ruckus (The Boondocks) and Sam Jackson from Django Unchained jokes. And, of course, countless others couldn’t miss an opportunity to regale fellow RDR2 players with how they themselves took out gathering KKK members.

That a black NPC reported crimes against the KKK to the police is probably little more than an extreme example of random video game weirdness. It doesn’t make the situation any less paradoxical, though.

Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive launch Red Dead Redemption 2 to critical acclaim in late 2018. Not only is it considered among the best games of the last generation, but it performed exceptionally well on the market, too. As of this past summer, the prequel had moved more than 37 million units worldwide.
