Lauren Mayberry of CHVRCHES has unveiled her first solo single “Are You Awake?”
The Scottish singer-songwriter co-wrote the melancholic ballad with reigning Grammy Songwriter of the Year Tobias Jesso Jr. as well as pop-punk artist Matthew Koma, who added finishing touches to the delicate arrangement.
In a video prefacing the song’s release, Mayberry shared that “Are You Awake?” was a “happy accident” and fittingly came together on “a grey, rainy afternoon in December” when she was feeling “pretty homesick and missing everyone.” Luckily, she found a kindred spirit in native Canadian Jesso Jr as “people who are not from America living in America.” Stream the single below.

In August, Mayberry and Koma were credited as songwriters, along with Mayberry’s CHVRCHES bandmates and BANKS, on Jai Wolf’s “Don’t Look Down.” CHRCHES are also marking the 10th anniversary of their debut album, The Bones of What You Believe, with a deluxe reissue.
