More than halfway into the presidential debate, President Joe Biden took a swing at former President Donald Trump by bringing up his long list of legal woes and criminal allegations.
Biden dug into several of the troubles the former president has faced in recent months, including his recent criminal conviction on 34 felony charges for falsifying business records to hide a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels just before the 2016 election. Trump was also found liable for sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll in 1996 and was found to have defamed her by claiming she lied.
“Think of all the civil penalties you have. How many billions of dollars do you owe in civil penalties for molesting a woman in public, for doing a whole range of things, having sex with a porn star while your wife is pregnant?” Biden said, adding that Trump has the “morals of an alley cat.”
Trump was quick to reject those charges, especially the claim about his alleged affair with a porn star.
“I didn’t have sex with a porn star,” the former president said. “That case was started and moved, and they moved a high ranking official into the Manhattan DA’s office to start that case. That case will be appealed and won.”
Last month, Trump became the first former president to be criminally convicted. He also has other cases open against him, including ones related to his attempt to overthrow the 2020 election results, his involvement in the Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol and allegations that he’d mishandled classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
He’s set to be sentenced on July 11 for the hush money case, though even if he were given jail time, he’d still be legally able to campaign.
