A man is dead after a shooting and a police chase in Everett on Sunday afternoon, according to the Everett Police Department.

The incident began at around 1:05 p.m. when officers were dispatched to the Park View Apartments on the 1100 block of West Casino Road in response to reports of gunfire.

Upon arrival, officers found two victims—a man who had died and a woman with non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman was transported to the hospital for treatment.

“I heard pounding on the door, and then all of a sudden, from the pounding to just gunshots, firing like rapidly, repeatedly,” said Robert Melton, who lives in a unit near where the shooting took place.

Melton said he heard six or seven shots fired, just a few walls away.

“I knew that it was very close because of the sound,” he said. “It sounded muffled.”

Melton said he grabbed his dog and left the property.

“A couple other people came running out, screaming and yelling,” he said. “I just grabbed my dog and left.”

Witnesses at the scene identified the suspect and his vehicle, and officers quickly located the suspect’s car near 19th Avenue Southeast and El Capitan Way.

The pursuit then continued onto I-5 North.

The chase came to an end near milepost 190, where the suspect’s vehicle crashed, involving other uninvolved vehicles.

Shortly after the crash, officers reported hearing gunshots coming from the suspect’s vehicle.

When officers safely approached the scene, they discovered the suspect was dead.

No shots were fired by law enforcement during the incident.

I-5 north and south were initially closed, but have since reopened.

“It was scary,” said Caleb Robles, who was stuck in the closure with his grandmother and siblings. His car was just feet away from the suspect’s crashed vehicle.

“They took the camera from my grandma, and they were sobbing,” said Amanda Robles, Caleb’s mom, who was on video chat with her kids during the ordeal. “I felt very hopeless seeing seeing my kids cry like that, and not knowing if there was going to be any stray bullets.”

Robles’s kids made it home safely.

Police have not yet identified the suspect or the man that was killed during the apartment shooting.
