Ventura Beach in California was transformed into sepia tone as smoke from the Hughes Fire suffocated the sky north of Los Angeles on Wednesday, January 22.

This video shared to Instagram shows the apocalyptic scenes as a bright orange sun looked over the sand on the shore.

The Hughes Fire was sparked on Wednesday in Castaic and has since burned more than 10,000 acres, according to Cal Fire.

The blaze led the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District to issue a statement on the smoke. In an update on Thursday it said the amount of smoke from the Hughes Fire had decreased in Ventura County. Credit: Instagram user kalina.colorhair via Storyful
