It’s hard to find a dull moment in GTA Online. Whether there’s an alien gang war going on or just one’s standard criminal endeavors, Los Santos is packed with things to do and a plethora of mini-games. Some of those might be a little out there, but there’s always tennis for those looking for the more simple pleasures in life.
It’s a fun and worthwhile mini-game to play (especially considering the dearth of actual tennis games), with a level of verisimilitude to real tennis that is surprising when considering some of the crazier things the player can get up to in Los Santos. That said, it can be a little troublesome to actually start a match. This guide will explain how to get started playing tennis in no time.
How to Find a Tennis Match in GTA Online
To start a tennis match, the player simply has to go to one of the several tennis courts spread throughout the map. These can be found by looking for an icon on the map that resembles a tennis racket and heading on over. The courts might be different colors, but there is no actual difference in surface type (unlike in real tennis), and each court plays the same and offers the same options.
To initiate the match, the player needs to step onto the court and interact with the glowing white circle in the middle of the court. The player can then choose how to go about the matchmaking process. Any friend online can be directly invited, but there is always the option to open up the matchmaking to either everyone in the current session or to select someone specific from the current session.
The quickest way to get a match going with a stranger is to select “Auto-Invite,” which will continuously send out invitations until someone else has joined the lobby. Once someone else has joined the lobby, click play and set the terms for the match.
How to Play a Tennis Match in GTA Online
When deciding the length of the actual match, there are some specific terms worth knowing. A “match” can be a maximum of 1, 3, or 5 “sets.” The player who wins the majority of “sets” wins the “match.” To win a “set,” the player needs to win 6 individual “games.” Regardless of the particulars, the most important part of actually playing tennis is just getting points by hitting the ball within bounds and not letting the other player score.
By playing tennis, the player will receive RP and a boost to their Strength and Stamina stats. Money can be wagered as well, but just because one player bets doesn’t mean the other has to. Most importantly tennis can be fun and is a great mini-game when looking for a break from the same old murder and mischief that usually fills the hours in GTA Online.
GTA Online is available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
