Labour’s shadow culture secretary Jo Stevens is being treated in hospital for COVID-19, her team has said.

A statement on the 54-year-old MP’s Twitter account said: “Jo has asked us to let you know that she is being treated in hospital for Covid.

“Thanks for all your good wishes we will give an update when we can.”

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer wished the Cardiff Central MP well, calling her a “dear friend and colleague”.

A number of other politicians have wished Ms Stevens well on Twitter, including former chancellor Sajid Javid who sent his best wishes, and the vaccine minister Nadhim Zahawi, who said: “Wishing you a speedy recovery Jo”.

First minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, also added his thoughts, saying: “All of our thoughts and best wishes are with Jo for a speedy recovery.

“Thank you to Jo’s constituency team for continuing to support Cardiff Central constituents at this difficult time.”

More from Covid-19

Labour colleague and MP for Cardiff North Anna McMorrin replied saying “Sending lots of love for a speedy and strong recovery”, while another neighbouring MP, Alex Davies-Jones who represents Pontypridd, said: “Sending you all the love”.

Ms Stevens has been an MP since 2015, when she defeated the incumbent Liberal Democrat MP.
