Mark Wahlberg’s chef reveals extreme ‘7,000 calorie a day diet’ for star’s new film role

US

Remember Mark Wahlberg’s gruelling daily routine that involved 2.30am wake-ups and cryo chamber recovery to get over his punishing workouts?

That post went viral in 2018 and it looks like the actor is taking it to the extreme once again, posting before and after photographs of a major body transformation, taken just three weeks apart.

Wahlberg thanked chef Lawrence Duran for his new, heavier look, which is for an upcoming film – and Duran has been filling US media in on exactly what the star is eating.

It’s quite a lot.

This time round, Wahlberg is looking to put on about 30lbs (13.6kg) for the role, but he’s gaining the weight in a healthy way, according to Duran.

The star is currently aiming for 7,000 calories a day, the chef told E!, from about eight meals including at least 12 eggs.

And the early starts continue, with breakfast at 3am, followed by meals or snacks every three hours.

More on Mark Wahlberg

“We go to a specialist every two weeks to see where we’re at and adjust things,” Duran reportedly told E!.

“We went from taking in about 2,000 calories a day, which is where he was in that first picture – all slim and ripped – eating maybe four meals a day, to eating eight meals a day at about 7,000 calories.

“We try to hit 7,000 calories a day, but it’s not easy for anyone to take in that much food even though we’re breaking it up into smaller meals.

“He’s eating about every three hours. We do good carbohydrates, dark green vegetables, and then, just switch up the protein throughout the day and, at least, a dozen eggs a day.”

Wahlberg is not the only Hollywood A-lister revealing weight gain, with Will Smith also recently winning praise for sharing a photo showing himself in “the worst shape of my life”.

In another post, Smith said he was starting training to get his “health and wellness back on track”, but applauded the “body that carried me through an entire pandemic and countless days grazing thru the pantry”.
