Kerby Jean-Raymond Is Taking His Talents to Paris Haute Couture Week

Fashion

Earlier this year, Kerby Jean-Raymond announced that his label Pyer Moss would return to September’s New York Fashion Week circuit after a two-year hiatus. But Jean-Raymond will be making a detour in France ahead of his NYFW homecoming. Announced today, May 12, Pyer Moss will present at Paris Haute Couture in July.

Jean-Raymond’s trip to Paris marks a few historic firsts for the Haitian-American designer. For one, Pyer Moss’s Haute Couture collection is the house’s first-ever couture offerings. What’s more, Jean-Raymond is the first-ever Black designer to be invited by the Chambre Syndicale to present a couture collection. Anticipation for its Paris Haute Couture debut has reached fever pitch, as couture fashion week typically never made space for Black designers, let alone designers as bold and unapologetic as Jean-Raymond. Past Pyer Moss shows have included a 40-person gospel choir and models outfitted in pieces that read “See Us Now?” and “Stop Calling 911 On The Culture,” an impassioned speech on slavery delivered by Casey Gerald, and an appearance on the runway from Doja Cat.

Following his upcoming Paris trip, Jean-Raymond will return NYFW to show Collection 4 in September. So far, 2021 has been a stacked year for the fashion house. In January, then vice president-elect Kamala Harris wore Pyer Moss to honor those who lost their lives to the coronavirus.

Pyer Moss’s couture collection will debut at some point during Couture Week, which runs from July 5 to July 8. Details surrounding the official date and collection will be announced at a later date.
