Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Loki episode 4.
Why didn’t Loki call Heimdall to rescue him and Sylvie from Lamentis using the Bifrost in Loki episode 4? After teasing the existence of another Loki Variant causing trouble for the Time Variance Authority, Marvel Studios’ current Disney+ show began to shed light on “Lady Loki” in recent episodes. Much of Sylvie’s growth as a character has come as she’s been paired with the god of mischief in Loki episodes 3 and 4.
Loki and Sylvie first traveled to the TVA headquarters together, but Loki sent them to Lamentis-1 at the start of episode 3. This positioned them to race against the clock to recharge the TemPad so they could escape the apocalypse event. Loki was then responsible for breaking the TemPad completely, leaving them to try and get aboard a launching ship so they could survive. This plan also failed and left them on the verge of death. However, they were saved when Loki and Sylvie inadvertently created a nexus event and allowed the TVA to locate them on Lamentis-1.

Loki and Sylvie waiting for their deaths on Lamentis-1 might have confused some viewers considering they both hail from a planet and people who have a unique way to travel across the galaxy. The Thor franchise repeatedly used the Bifrost to transport Thor and other Asgardians to different planets. They were even able to call upon Heimdall to immediately use the Bifrost to bring them back. Loki‘s first episode even showed a flashback to the god of mischief abusing this power as he became the legendary D.B. Cooper. So, why didn’t Loki use Heimdall and the Bifrost again to escape Lamentis-1?
The answer is that Heimdall is no longer around when Loki and Sylvie are on Lamentis-1. The Asgardian protector died in Avengers: Infinity War after he used his powers to send Hulk to Earth to warn the Avengers about Thanos’ impending attack. Heimdall had to use dark magic in this instance to channel the Bifrost since Asgard was just destroyed in Thor: Ragnarok. These events take place in the MCU timeline in 2018, but Loki and Sylvie are on Lamentis-1 in 2077. Even though they are variants, they are still hiding on the Sacred Timeline. This reaffirms that Heimdall is not around during Loki‘s events, so it would’ve been useless for Loki to call upon Heimdall.
If Loki and Sylvie did want to use the Bifrost to escape Lamentis-1, though, there might’ve been possible ways to do this. Loki’s magician powers are being showcased in the Disney+ series, so Loki could’ve revealed that he learned the same dark magic that Heimdall knew to channel the Bifrost. If that wouldn’t work, then Thor could’ve been another solution. Stormbreaker has the power to access the Bifrost. Thor also might still be alive in the MCU by 2077. It isn’t known if Thor has the same level of control over the Bifrost, though, so he might not have been able to hear Loki’s call for help anyway.
Loki releases new episodes Wednesdays on Disney+.
