Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch Video Shows Timothée Chalamet In A Tub

Entertainment

In a new clip from Wes Anderson’s upcoming film, The French Dispatch, Timothée Chalamet is shown lounging in a tub while bantering with co-star Frances McDormand. The film, which is described as “a love letter to journalists,” follows an American news outpost in a fictional 20th-century French city and centers on three different stories. Anderson’s signature cast of recurring actors includes Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody, and more.

In the clip, released by Searchlight Pictures, Chalamet’s character, Zeffirelli, is shown sitting in a tub while drafting a revolutionary manifesto. Lucinda Krementz (McDormand), a journalist profiling student revolutionaries like Zeffirelli, proofreads his writing after she accidentally walks into the restroom and finds him bathing. The full clip can be seen below:

A young Chalamet first hit the scene in 2014 after appearing as Matthew McConaughey’s character’s teenage son in Interstellar. 2017 was a big year for the actor, as Chalamet played lead roles in two Oscar-nominated films, Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name, the latter of which earned Chalamet a nomination for Best Actor at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards. In December 2018, it was announced that Chalamet would be starring in The French Dispatch, with Anderson stating that Chalamet’s role was specifically written with him in mind.

The French Dispatch debuted recently at the 74th annual Cannes Film Festival to great critical success and even received a 9-minute long standing ovation. Fans of Anderson’s work have already waited over a year for The French Dispatch to be released after its original July 2020 release date was postponed due to the pandemic, making the upcoming film one of his most highly-anticipated yet. The director’s decision to hold off on the original premiere came after the 2020 Cannes Film Festival was canceled. Anderson was intent on debuting the film at Cannes, as the film is, of course, a celebration of all things French. With an already star-studded cast of collaborators, plus the addition of A-lister newcomers like Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan, The French Dispatch is bound to be another quirky hit from the legendary director.
