Brian Cox was in for a disappointment after he agreed to host a new series called 007: Road to a Million. The Succession actor revealed in a new interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he signed onto the project thinking it was a new James Bond film, when really, it’s a Bond-inspired reality competition show.
Host Fallon brought up the topic, expressing his excitement that Bond producer Barbara Broccoli was returning to executive produce 007: Road to a Million. With a name like that attached, Cox was apparently pretty excited about the opportunity.
“I thought it was the new James Bond film,” he said. “So I said, ‘Oh, finally they’re getting me in a James Bond movie!’ I thought, ‘Yes, of course! Show me the script!’ But there was no script. And there was no James Bond movie.”

Fallon offered some words of encouragement despite the mix-up: “I think you’d be great in James Bond.”
“I know!” Cox responded with a chuckle. “For years, I thought, ‘I would love to be in James Bond.’ It would be really interesting. And I thought, ‘this is my moment,’ but it wasn’t.”
Regardless of the project’s premise, Cox said he still had a good experience filming 007: Road to a Million. Streaming on Prime Video beginning November 10th, it’s an Amazing Race-like series where contestants take on Bond-like challenges, and Cox serves as their omniscient “Controller”: “It was great fun — I love bossing people around.”
