The first Monday in May has arrived, which means it’s Met Gala time.
For its 2024 edition, the annual fundraiser benefiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute was hosted by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, and Anna Wintour with the theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” (the title of the Institute’s latest exhibition), and a dress code of “The Garden of Time,” a reference to the 1962 J.G. Ballard short story of the same name.
Accordingly all the stars arrived in New York City donning the finest horticulture-inspired couture, with natural designs and floral garnishes abound. Notably, 2024 marks the most expensive year in history for the already-uber-ritzy Gala, with ticket prices for those not invited rising by 50% from last year to $75,000 a seat. Both TikTok and the fashion brand Loewe were sponsors of the event, with TikTok’s CEO, Shou Chew, and Loewe’s creative director, Jonathan Anderson, being named honorary chairs.
