The Batman: DC Concept Artist Confirms Batmobile Features Subtle Bat Symbol

Entertainment

The new Batmobile in Matt Reeves’ The Batman is confirmed to have a subtle bat symbol. As part of Warner Bros. and DC Films’ new direction for their DC movies, The Batman is rebooting the character and world Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck previously introduced. Robert Pattinson is now playing Bruce Wayne during his early days as the Dark Knight, and he has a unique Batsuit that has been officially revealed already.

In an effort to continue generating excitement for The Batman and avoid first looks at important characters (or vehicles) coming in set photos, Reeves recently debuted his film’s Batmobile. The muscle car design continued to convey the grounded nature of the film and how Bruce, while using his riches to fund his heroic ways, isn’t operating with the same expensive tech that recent iterations did. With Batman’s new ride another fresh design for the big screen, one element that some fans missed was the presence of a bat symbol. The logo isn’t a staple of every Batmobile, but it turns out The Batman‘s version does have a subtle reference to it.

This revelation comes from Twitter (via Comicbook) thanks to user @GeekyAndGrumpy, who shared the belief that a bat symbol reference was hidden in the Batmobile’s design. They tweeted a photo of the vehicle with markings outlining the shape of the engine, which appeared to reveal a bat symbol. Instead of this being a case of fans looking too hard for connections, The Batman concept artist Ash Thorp responded to the tweet and confirmed that this bat symbol reference was intentional.

This level of detail only makes The Batman‘s Batmobile all the more impressive, and Thorp teased that there could be more. The reply notes that the bat symbol is also “in another view of the batmobile;” the additional bat symbol reference has yet to be found. Based on the images already released, it does not appear that the Batmobile has been shown at the specific angle needed to discover it. That said, it also took several days for someone to notice this bat symbol reference, so it may still take time for the other bat symbol to be found.

All of this just further illustrates what Reeves’ vision for The Batman is. He is clearly a big fan of the Dark Knight, and cast member Jeffrey Wright – who plays Commissioner Gordon in the film – recently said he bonded with Reeves over their love of Batman, but specifically Adam West’s version. As filming continues on The Batman and new official and unofficial looks at the film arrive, hopefully more cool details like the Batmobile’s bat symbol will be revealed along the way.
