Real Eurovision Contestant Reluctantly Agrees To Perform Netflix Movie Song

Entertainment

Fiction became a reality when real-life a Eurovision contestant gave into requests to sing “Jaja Ding Dong” from Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. The 2020 Netflix comedy starred Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, who played two up-and-coming Icelandic music artists, Lars and Sigrit. While performing a gig at their local pub, the two want to show off their artful, original songs. However, the crowd is very insistent on hearing a cover of ”Jaja Ding Dong:” a song created for the movie to be a very repetitive and overdone song (think “Wonderwall.”) Eventually, the duo caves in and gives the people what they ask for.

According to Entertainment Weekly, an almost identical situation happened to real-life Icelandic Eurovision contestant Daði Freyr. Ever since the release of the Netflix movie, the singer has been bombarded with requests in the comments section of his YouTube videos to cover Eurovision Song Contest’s “Jaja Ding Dong.” After the persistence of his fans continued to amount to the pressure the pub patrons put on Lars and Sigrit, Freyr set his pride aside to record a cover of ”Jaja Ding Dong.”

Freyr kicked off the video explaining, “This is the first and last time that I play this song,” with a backdrop of edited-in YouTube comments begging him to cover the song.  He added his touch to “Jaja Ding Dong” with a pumpin’ bass beat and electronic melodic flourishes.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga follows aspiring musicians Lars and Sigrit as they are allowed to represent their country at the world’s biggest song competition, they finally have a chance to prove that any dream worth having is a dream worth fighting for.
