Theory: FF7 Remake’s Yuffie DLC Is In A Different Universe

Entertainment

Could Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrades Yuffie DLC take place in a different universe than Final Fantasy VII Remake? With such well-established, timeline-altering effects occurring in FF7 Remake, it’s fair to wonder whether or not the Yuffie DLC bridging the gap between the first game and Part 2 is more than just a side-story. The events that led up to the end of FF7 Remake clearly established that the timeline from the original game was no longer being followed, with significant plot differences culminating in a final showdown that left the futures of Cloud and friends in FF7 Remake completely unknown.

However, the ending of FF7 Remake also works to make Intergrade‘s Yuffie DLC more intriguing. As the ending cinematic rolls and Cloud crosses paths – whether he’s aware of it or not – with an old friend living out one of the worst days of their lives, an advertisement for Shinra’s adorable propaganda puppy, Stamp, is visible. However, it’s a distinctly different drawing than the one that’s scattered throughout FF7 Remake‘s story. While it’s possible it’s just an older cartoon, the Stamp that shows up as timelines appear to be crossing is an entirely different breed to the one Cloud has passed by several times. This indicates the potential for alternate universes and timelines, rather than just the alteration of a single, fixed FF7 timeline.

It wouldn’t be that surprising, then, if FF7 Remake Intergrade‘s Yuffie DLC takes place in a different universe than the one in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which would offer a lot of flexibility for how the DLC plays out and could even mean multiple versions of Yuffie, a fan favorite. It would make sense for Intergrade‘s Yuffie DLC to have some relevance to the main plot of FF7 Remake, though, even if it exists in yet another alternate universe. Yuffie’s mission in the FF7 Remake Intergrade DLC is to break into Midgar and steal what’s being called the “ultimate materia” from Shinra, and this materia could be the key.

How FF7 Remake’s Yuffie DLC Alternate Universe Theory Makes Sense

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade Yuffie Original FF7 Character

Beyond the fact that either the timelines in FF7 Remake are being tampered with or there are multiple universes, the ultimate materia Yuffie is tasked with stealing seems like a relevant factor in explaining the events of Final Fantasy 7‘s new story. Sephiroth still makes an appearance in FF7 Remake, eliminating a threat in President Shinra – and perhaps setting himself up to gain access to whatever this ultimate materia might be. If it holds a power that can further tamper with alternate universes or help prevent Sephiroth’s demise in the original Final Fantasy 7, Yuffie’s different-universe attempt to steal it would help provide background information on this materia and establish its power without necessarily giving away where it currently resides.

While FF7 Remake changed a lot of key elements, it did largely preserve when major characters first appeared in the story. Yuffie is meant to appear after Midgar in the original game, and her infiltrating the city as part of FF7 Remake Intergrade‘s Yuffie DLC would be another major departure from the original title’s narrative. As an optional Final Fantasy 7 character, she’s also not as present in key moments of the original narrative, which means she doesn’t have to appear in the FF7 Remake story, either, even if it intends to include all of the original game’s main heroes.

Finally, Yuffie’s adventure taking place in an alternate universe would be a great opportunity for the Final Fantast VII Remake Intergrade DLC to further tease her involvement in FF7 Remake Part 2. There seems to be some awareness in characters like Cloud and Aerith that they’ve lived through different events and timelines before, and Yuffie’s experience with the ultimate materia in one universe could prove crucial to stopping Sephiroth’s plans in the main FF7 Remake universe.
