Remember movie premieres? On Friday night, Emilia Clarke attended the premiere of Billie Piper’s new movie, Rare Beasts, in London. On the reportedly socially distanced red carpet, Clarke wore a floor-length, stunning sheer polka-dot dress with a mock turtleneck. She paired the look with bright red heels.

She was joined on the carpet by Doctor Who actress Jenna Coleman.

In a review for The Guardian, Peter Bradshaw writes that Piper’s new movie is a new kind of romcom.

“The movie screeches when it should soothe; where the heroine should find love, she finds absence; where she should show feminist solidarity, she confesses she still needs a man; where there should be closure, there is nothing. The last time I saw something as bleak as this was at the Samuel Beckett festival in Enniskillen. It isn’t an easy watch but the fierce, focused intelligence of Piper’s film-making is exhilarating.”

Piper shared with U.K. publication Metro the motivation behind her very different kind of movie:

“There’s this message that you can have it all and do it all and that it’s not enough to just get through your working day – you have to be really successful and brilliant too,” she said.

She added: “I guess I’m coming to terms with male oppression. I know a fair share about it, even in its most passive form. I’m examining that now I’m a woman in my mid-30s who is living and working in what has been a man’s world for so long.”
