US comedian Bog Saget died from an accidental blow to the head, his family said in a statement.

The Full House star was found dead on 9 January in a Florida hotel room after he had performed in the state as part of a stand-up tour the night before.

In a statement, the Saget family said: “The authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma.

“They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep. No drugs or alcohol were involved.”

Last month, authorities said the 65-year-old was found on the hotel bed at the Ritz Carlton in Orlando and there were no signs of foul play.

A hotel security officer entered the room after the comedian failed to check out, and called emergency services when he found him unresponsive.

Deputies and paramedics then came to the room and he was pronounced dead.

In the statement, the family added they had been overwhelmed with “the incredible outpouring of love from Bob’s fans” and were comforted by it.

“As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter,” the statement added.

Saget was best known for his role as Danny Tanner on the ABC sitcom Full House, which aired from 1987 until 1995.

Its sequel, Fuller House, was released on Netflix in 2016.

He also hosted America’s Funniest Home Videos in the ’90s and provided the voice for future Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother.

His 2014 comedy album, That’s What I’m Talkin’ About, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album.

The star had been on the road as part of his I Don’t Do Negative Comedy Tour at the time of his death.

After warm audience receptions to his gigs in Orlando and in the Ponte Vedra Beach resort area, he celebrated online.

“I’m back in comedy like I was when I was 26. I guess I’m finding my new voice and loving every moment of it,” he posted on Instagram.

Saget’s death prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and colleagues from around the world, who recalled him as both funny and extraordinarily kind.

His Full House co-star, John Stamos, led tributes, tweeting: “I am broken. I am gutted. I am in complete and utter shock. I will never ever have another friend like him.”

Saget was survived by his wife Kelly Rizzo Saget and three daughters from a previous marriage.
