Fans have been using a blue hue filter on TikTok to place themselves in the Twilight universe. It’s difficult to believe that it’s been over a decade since Twilight’s initial film debut. The 2008 film brought with it a mostly unknown Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, turning them both into international stars. The film franchise, based on a book series of the same name by author Stephenie Meyer, centered around Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and followed her new life in Forks, Washington where she suddenly found herself entangled in a world full of supernatural creatures, quickly getting caught in a love triangle between Pattinson’s Edward and Taylor Lautner’s Jacob.
While the movies and book series definitely experienced a multitude of criticism, from both fans and otherwise, Twilight was inarguably a massive success. By the end of the film franchise, Twilight had grossed $3.4 billion internationally. The number of passionate fans has died down over the 10 years since the final Twilight movie’s release, however, there’s been a steady resurgence in more recent years, especially with Robert Pattinson’s The Batman bringing a new audience and attention to the actor beyond the indie sphere he has worked in since.
As part of a TikTok trend, people have been using a blue filter to find out what movie/TV franchise they would be best suited to and both @novavoice and @justinebiticon hilariously found their Twilight lookalikes. The fittingly named “Bella” filter on TikTok gives the screen a drastic blue wash, mirroring Twilight’s iconic cold, dusky look. With this, fans are able to envision their own version of Twilight or recreate scenes like the above users.

Despite its questionable reputation, many fans and cast members still have a deep connection to Twilight. For some, the film was a fundamental part of their growing identity, like the fans who expressed to Ashley Greene that her portrayal of Alice was part of their “gay awakening”. It wasn’t just the fans who were shaped by these movies, as the actors will forever be most known for their roles in Twilight.
Love it or hate it, Twilight is easily one of the most recognizable franchises to date, with parodies of Twilight being seen across various forms of media. The franchise’s influence has had a grip on pop culture since it was first released, and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere any time soon. It seems that the “cringe-y” air surrounding Twilight has somewhat dissipated over the past few years, as fans find themselves invested in the films again, and like Pattinson stated, “It’s not even cool to be a hater anymore. That’s so 2010.”
