Tangle Teezer owner hires bankers to weave new chapter | Business News

The owner of Tangle Teezer, the British hair-styling brand, has enlisted investment bankers to explore options for the company that could include an eventual sale.

Sky News has learnt that Mayfair Equity Partners, the private equity backer of companies such as Ovo Energy, has hired Harris Williams to oversee a strategic review.

The move comes as Tangle Teezer benefits from an explosion in sales in the US, and comes 17 years after its founder’s pitch for funding was rejected on the television programme Dragons’ Den.

People close to the situation said that a number of options were under review, and there was no formal timetable for any sale process.

Mayfair invested in Tangle Teezer in July 2021 to help fuel the company’s international growth.

Launched in 2007 by Shaun Pulfrey, a former hair colourist, Tangle Teezer makes a range of detangling, blow-drying and styling hairbrushes best-known for their distinctive look.

Its rapid growth has made it a fixture among haircare professionals as well as consumers.

The company now holds more than 60 patents for brushes globally, and has a presence in 75 countries.

It is run by James Vowles, who joined as commercial chief in 2017 before taking the helm in 2021.

Mayfair declined to comment.
