Mandalorian: Every Character Confirmed & Rumored For Season 2 (So Far)

Entertainment

The Mandalorian season 2 will feature several familiar faces, and a few new ones. The second season of the hit Disney+ series will continue the story of the titular Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his mission to protect Baby Yoda, AKA The Child.

The first season of the first live-action Star Wars TV series premiered in November with the launch of Disney’s new streaming service and wrapped up in the end of December with its eighth and final episode. The emergence of Moff Gideon and reveal of the Darksaber from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels in the final scene of the season finale set up the story for the show’s second season. As an important artifact with great symbolic meaning to the Mandalorians, the Darksaber is expected to play a key role in The Mandalorian season 2.

The new season will premiere on Disney+ in October 2020. Filming for season 2 wrapped up in early March. Since production on season 2 began in October – back before the first episode had even been released – a great deal of information has already been made known about the cast. At this point, several characters have been confirmed to return for season 2, with some new actors joining the cast as well. Here’s every character confirmed (and rumored) for The Mandalorian season 2.

Returning Characters In The Mandalorian Season 2

Pedro Pascal and Gina Carano as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian season 1 episode 8

At the end of season 1, the series began to drop more crucial details about the true identity of the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) by showing his face and officially revealing his real name, Din Djarin. Now, thanks to the Armorer (Emily Swallow), Mando has a new clan and a new mission. Mando is expected to protect Baby Yoda until he can reunite the child with its own kind, which means that season 2 is sure to explore the origin of The Mandalorian‘s breakout star. Season 1 was all about Mando and Baby Yoda traveling from planet to planet, with Mando doing everything he could to keep Baby Yoda out of harm’s way. It seems like season 2 will see a continuation of that.

After successfully teaming up with Mando to save Baby Yoda, ex-shock trooper Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and bounty hunter guild leader Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) elected to remain on Navarro and decide to work together to rebuild Karga’s bounty hunters guild. The way season 1 ended, it wasn’t clear if Mando would see either character again, but both will be back for season 2. Weathers will also direct a season 2 episode in addition to reprising his role as Karga. The Mandalorian teased Karga’s backstory by revealing that he was a disgraced magistrate, so a future episode could explore his past even further.

Naturally, The Mandalorian season 1 main villain Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) will be back, presumably as the primary antagonist. However, Moff Gideon may be featured more prominently in the story this time, considering he didn’t reveal himself until the end of the first season. The character, who has his hands on the Darksaber, wants Baby Yoda for some nefarious purpose. Some have theorized Moff Gideon wants to become Force-sensitive, but regardless of his reasons, Gideon will likely pursue Mando and Baby Yoda ruthlessly. Exactly what comes next for Gideon hasn’t been revealed, but we do know epic lightsaber action” will be involved.

Another returning character in season 2 is Mayfield (Bill Burr), a human and one of the mercenaries Mando works with on a mission to intercept a prison transfer in episode 6. Mayfield betrays Mando, but is locked up in a cell. How and why Mayfield gets brought back into the story remains to be seen, but it seems like a safe bet that he’ll have revenge on his mind.

Confirmed New Characters In The Mandalorian Season 2

Star Wars Clone Wars Ahsoka White Lightsabers

So far, the biggest news regarding season 2 is the report that Rosario Dawson will play Ahsoka Tano. Ahsoka is one of the main heroes of Star Wars: The Clones Wars and a key recurring character in Star Wars: Rebels. The Clone Wars, which takes place during the time of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, establishes that Ahsoka is the young Jedi apprentice of Anakin Skywalker. As time passes, Ahsoka becomes a formidable Jedi and even battles her former master after he goes to the dark side and becomes Darth Vader. She also had a voice cameo in Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker.

Ahsoka has become an incredibly popular hero in the Star Wars franchise, so her live-action debut in The Mandalorian will be hotly anticipated. As for what her role could be, she could use her knowledge of the Force to help Mando with Baby Yoda, or she may be connected to the show’s plans for the Darksaber.

Also appearing in season 2 is a bounty hunter played by The Terminator‘s Michael Biehn. His character’s name hasn’t been revealed, but Biehn will be portraying a character who shares a history with Mando. At this stage, it’s too early to say if he’ll be an ally or an enemy.

Rumored Characters In The Mandalorian Season 2

The reveal that Ahsoka Tano is coming to The Mandalorian has led to rumors about more characters from the Star Wars cartoons coming to the series, including Captain Rex, a clone trooper who has fought alongside Ahsoka many times in the past. The character appeared in both Rebels and The Clones Wars as a major supporting character and ally of the heroes, and he also fought alongside Han Solo and the other heroes on the forest moon in the Battle of Endor. Due to his advanced aging as a clone, a live-action version of Rex in The Mandalorian would look significantly older.

There are also rumors about Rebels fan-favorite Mandalorian hero, and friend of Ahsoka, Sabine Wren appearing in season 2 as well. Sabine Wren, being a Mandalorian, is definitely someone fans are hoping to see in live-action at some point, whether it be in The Mandalorian or a spin-off series. A-list actress Jamie Lee Curtis is rumored to be in season 2, but there’s no word on who she’d play — if she’s even in the show. Also, it’s been reported that established characters from the original trilogy may show up in some capacity, which has naturally reignited speculation about Boba Fett somehow making an appearance in The Mandalorian.
