Listen to a Previously Unreleased Version of Prince’s “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man”

The Prince Estate has shared a previously unreleased recording of the song “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man.” Taken from the forthcoming super deluxe edition of Prince’s 1987 double album Sign o’ the Times, the unearthed version was recorded in 1979 at Hollywood Sound Recorders. Listen below.

“I Could Never Take Place of Your Man (1979 Version)” dates back to sessions for Prince’s self-titled 1979 album. It was re-recorded in 1986 before finally appearing on Sign o’ the Times. Last month, the Prince Estate shared the previously unreleased “Witness 4 the Prosecution (Version 1)” from the super deluxe edition, which arrives September 25 via Warner.
