Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga Sing and Dance

The first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux has arrived.

The follow-up to 2019’s Oscar-winning Joker marks the return of Joaquin Phoenix in the role of the Clown Prince of Crime, and introduces Lady Gaga as his love interest, Harley Quinn. Todd Phillips returned to the director’s chair for the sequel, and Zazie Beetz signed on to continue playing Sophie Dummond.

While the first installment of Phillips’ take on the iconic character offered a grounded and gritty origin story in Gotham City, the sequel will be making some departures. This film is described as a jukebox musical, promising at least 15 tracks throughout the run time, including a cover of the Judy Garland standard from The Band Wagon, “That’s Entertainment!”

To help get into character, Lady Gaga reportedly asked to be called a different name on the set of Joker: Folie à Deux. According to cinematographer Larry Sherr, the award-winning triple threat preferred to be addressed as Lee throughout filming.

One of our most anticipated movies of the yearJoker: Folie à Deux will swing into theaters on October 4th, 2024.
