Republicans had been targeting Sen. Jon Ossoff’s seat for years as a potential flip. The GOP had planned to dump massive amounts of money into Georgia to flip the Senate seat, but then Trump happened.

In Georgia, Republican strategists are privately discussing whether the Senate race has drifted beyond the party’s reach.

The first big state that could fall off the map for Republicans is Georgia.

Some Republicans have quietly begun to discuss the pros and cons of redirecting resources away from the state, where Representative Mike Collins, the party’s nominee, has trailed Mr. Ossoff in the polls.

There are always stages that every incumbent political party goes through when it realizes it is about to be blown out.

Stage one is that the party gives up on states or districts that it thought it could flip. That is what is happening in Georgia.
